February 27, 1926 - December 02, 2018

Velma Lea Johnson Schultz, 92, went to her eternal heavenly home on Sunday, December 2, 2018, at Golden Oaks Nursing Home, Enid, Oklahoma. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2018, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Rev. Alan Seibel. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid, Oklahoma. A visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday, December 5, at Anderson-Burris, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.

Velma was born on February 27, 1926, the third of six children to Ira Orin and Lenore Evelyn (Hardy) Johnson on the original Johnson family homestead in the Hunter-Kremlin area. She started school at Rosebud Rural School and graduated as valedictorian of the class of 1943 of Kremlin High School. The following year she graduated from Enid Business College. At an early age, she was baptized at the Hunter Christian Church and later attended Davis Park Christian Church. In 1947, she met Chester Schultz of Hitchcock, Oklahoma, and they were married December 27, 1947. They were married 53 years and were blessed with four children, Stanley, Suzanne, Diane, and Richard. Velma truly was the matriarch of the family and a source of strength for all of us. She loved family gatherings and sharing in people's lives. She worked side-by-side with Chester on the family farm, and later worked twenty years as the manager of the college bookstore at Phillips University. Her heart's desire was to leave a legacy of a faithful life in Christ.

Surviving her are her children, Stan and Debbie Schultz of Pond Creek, Suzanne and Steve Johnson, Diane Loesch, Richard and Vicki Schultz, all of Enid; nine beloved grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She is also, survived by one sister-in-law, Lorene Johnson, and many adored nieces and nephews.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Chester; her parents, Ira and Lenore; brothers, Alvin, Lawrence, and Walter Johnson; and her sisters, Bernice Buss and Evelyn DeBoard. She was also preceded in death by nephews Earl and Merle Buss, niece Earlene Johnson Poindexter, and son-in-law Kenneth Loesch.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation and thanks to those who cared for our mother during her stay at Golden Oaks Nursing Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to 4RKids or Hunter Christian Church through the funeral home.

Condolences may be made online at www.andersonburris.com.
