The services celebrating and honoring the life of Roy E. Schlemmer, 97, of Enid, is 10:00 a.m. today, Tuesday December 19, 2017, in the Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Phillip Wilson officiating. Cremation follows, and burial will be held in Memorial Park Cemetery at a later date. Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy. Services and complete cremation care are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
He was born November 10, 1920, to George and Anna Opfer Schlemmer in St. Louis, Missouri, and passed from this life December 13, 2017, in Enid, Oklahoma. He was raised and educated in St. Louis, Missouri. He then attended the University of Missouri and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1943. He served in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1946. He moved to Enid in 1954 for a brief time, then returned to Enid again in 1960, and made Enid his home. He married Virginia Mae Gibson; she preceded him in death. Later he married his wife of 29 years, Virginia Campbell. He was a member of the Enid Chamber of Commerce, Enid Noon Lions Club, 32-degree Mason, Garfield Lodge #50, Scottish Rite, Guthrie, R.S.V.P., Oakwood Country Club. In his later years, he was a volunteer at Integris Bass Hospital and Meals on Wheels.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia Schlemmer, of the home; one son, Robert Schlemmer and his wife Kay of Malesia; two stepdaughters, Carol and Ted Spangler, of Talequah, Oklahoma; and Karma and David Warren, of Wichita, Kansas; one stepson, Dean and Claudia Veit, of Hunter, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Mae, one son, and his parents.
Memorials may be made to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, with Brown-Cumming Funeral home serving as custodians of the funds.
