In 1958, the family moved to Kansas, where Richard worked at Boeing in Wichita, and owned and operated Steamatic Carpet Cleaning in Hutchinson. The family moved to Enid in 1971, where Richard worked at Vance Air Force Base as a carpenter, at Champlin Refinery, and at Hackney Iron & Steel, until his retirement in 1998. Richard enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and family gatherings.
