ENID, OK — Funeral services for Norman Ray Pottorf, 78, Enid, will be held Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Oakwood Christian Church with Pastor Alan Seible officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the kind guidance of the Amy Stittsworth Funeral Service and Cremation Directors.

Norman passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, July 28, 2014, aged 78 years 9 months, two days. He was born Oct. 26, 1935 in Hastings, Neb., to the late Ray Pottorf and Mary Scott.

Norman grew up in Denver, Colo., and graduated from South High School with the class of 1953.

He was in the Navy Reserves for eight years. Norman met his wife, Darlene Elsie Lee, at South Broadway Christian Church.

They were married June 29, 1955. Norman and Darlene had two children, Paul Lee and Deborah Lynn Pottorf. They lived in Colorado, Wyoming, New York, Arizona and Oklahoma.

Norman worked for U-Haul Company for 18 years, later driving over the road for 35 years. He enjoyed life and talking to everyone. “He never met a stranger.” Norman loved to tinker and enjoyed various hobbies. He had is private pilot’s license and enjoyed flying cross country.

Norman loved his country and liked to keep up with politics. His latest enjoyment came from volunteering for the Kiwanis Club at Meadowlake Park, driving the train and operating the merry-go-round. He enjoyed participating in church activities but, during his last months, his main source of enjoyment was aggravating Darlene.

Family and friends enjoyed seeing the gleam in his eye from such endeavors. Norman is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, one month, Darlene Pottorf; his son, Paul (Debra) Pottorf; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Mrs. Bradley (Kira) Paul and their sons, Bradley Arik Paul and Amadeus Aurelius Paul; Mrs. Paul (Jennifer) Webb and their daughter, Ember Michelle Webb; Benjamin Pottorf; Mrs. Jason Levi (Anna) McBryde and their children, Aphrodite Rose, Brooklyn Calypso, and Maverick Ebeye McBryde; Christopher Pottorf; Solomon Pottorf; and Katherine Pottorf; his daughter, Mrs. John (Deborah) Bristol and grandchildren, Mrs. Dwayne (Sarah) Foster, Kimberly Bristol and John Thomas Bristol.

In lieu of flowers, the family has selected Oakwood Christian Church, Kiwanis Club of Enid, or the Cherokee Strip Heritage Center, as appropriate for memorial donations with the Stittsworths coordinating.
