ENID, OK — Funeral service for Rachel P. Poindexter, 86, of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014, at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gary Miller will officiate.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born to Sam and Dolly Balden in Oklahoma City on Aug. 4, 1927, and passed away on Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

She moved to the Fairview area with her family, and later to Enid in 1936. She attended Enid schools, graduating from Enid High In 1946.

She Married Orin Poindexter Feb. 7, 1964, in Enid.

She worked for the telephone company as an operator and later an inspector until her retirement after 32 years.

She volunteered as an elementary school teacher’s assistant for nearly a decade and enjoyed helping children.

She is survived by her husband, Orin of the home; daughter, Helen Hoffman and husband Larry of Okeene; three nephews, Mark, Byron and Craig Balden.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.

The funeral service celebrating the life of Orin Poindexter, 96, Enid, will be 2:00 PM, Friday April 15, 2016 with Rev. Gail Edmison officiating at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Military Honor Guard will be by Vance Air Force Base Silver Talon Honor Guard

Orin was born May 12, 1919 in Ames, OK to Joseph and Maud H. (Burner) Poindexter. He lived in Ames and attended school there. Orin entered the United States Army where he served during WWII. Following his discharge Orin joined the United States Air Force and served 20 years as a radio repair technician on air planes at Vance Air Force Base. Orin met Rachel Balden and they married Feb. 7 1964 in Enid, she preceded him in death on June 3, 2014.

Orin is survived by daughter, Helen Hoffman and husband Larry of Okeene; two granddaughters, Tiffany Hoffman of Okeene, OK and Rochelle Hoffman of Oklahoma City, OK; sister, Margaret Norris Durant, OK. He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and two brothers.

Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Retirement Home, “The Commons” with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as the custodian of the funds.
