Claire June Pierce, 85, was born August 11, 1927 in Nevada, Missouri, to Andrew and Alice (Carter) Nunn and passed away September 28, 2012 as a result of complications from heart valve replacement surgery in Oklahoma City. She passed in peace, surrounded by two daughters and a grandson. Her childhood years were spent in Ark City, Kansas before her family moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where she graduated from Enid High School in 1945.

June made a decision after high school to pursue nursing and completed her nursing education under the Cadet Nursing Corps Program. She married Gerald Rendall "Jerry" Pierce on September 26, 1948. She served as a nurse at both St. Mary's Hospital and Bass Baptist Memorial Hospital, and during her years as a nurse, her passion was for bedside nursing. She loved all of the patients she cared for and made a difference to their families during each hospitalization. She continued to volunteer her nursing expertise at free medical clinics after retirement and in her young years of nursing, she served as a Methodist church camp nurse.

During her life, June was utterly devoted to her children, grandchildren, and her dogs. She loved to read, care for her home, visit with her neighbors, and stayed in touch with high school classmates and former nursing peers through monthly luncheons and reunions. For the last five years, she enjoyed retirement living in Tulsa and Oklahoma City where she made many enduring friends. We will miss her for her sense of humor, her love of beautiful blouses, and the way her love shined through for everyone in her life.

She was a longtime member of St. Luke's Methodist Church and First Methodist Church, Enid.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her mother and father, and her brothers, Glen and James Nunn.

Surviving June are daughter, Cheryl Pearson (and Alan), and grandchildren Chance Pearson (Oklahoma City) and Camber and Matthew Osten (Houston); son, Gary Pierce (and Susan), and grandchildren LIndsay Pierce and Megan Pierce (Tulsa); and daughter, Robin Pierce (Fort Collins), and grandchildren Sabrina Shoemaker, Scott Shoemaker, and Brent Shoemaker (Denver). All of us who will dearly miss her are also joined by numerous other extended families members and friends.

Funeral services will be Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, 11:00 AM at The Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Edimison officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Enid SPCA.
