The funeral for Charles G. Payne Sr., 79, of Enid, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Wade Burleson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

He was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Enid to Charles W. and May O’Brate Payne and died Friday, July 20, 2007, in Enid.

He married Betty Elaine Eades June 1, 1946, in Liberal, Kan. She died March 2, 1987. He married Verna Balch June 3, 1990. He retired from Bond Bakery after 30 years. He then worked for Union Texas and American Exploration as a pumper for 12 years. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Verna, of the home; three sons, Chuck Payne Jr. and Mitchell Payne, both of Enid, and Randall Balch of Fort Smith, Ark.; three daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Payne of Enid, Joy Cooper of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jan Organ of Greenwood, Ark.; three brothers, Barton Payne and George Payne, both of Enid, and Glen Payne of Breckinridge; three sisters, Mergie Doll and Karen Theilen, both of Enid, and Lucy Webster of Follette, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister,and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Emmanuel Christian School.
