Rose Marie Miller, 88-year old Elkhart, Kan., resident, passed away Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the Special Care Unit in Elkhart, Kan. Rose was known to friends as Peggy.

Peggy was born to Glen and Myrtel Bishop on Nov. 22, 1926, in Enid, Okla.

She attended and graduated from Enid schools with the class of 1944.

After high school she worked at Vance Air Force Base during World War II as a bomber mechanic so she could earn money for college.

She married Lester Miller on Dec. 21, 1948, at First United Methodist Church of Enid.

Peggy was a member of Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon. Shortly after this, the family moved to Braman, Okla., to begin a life in farming.

Peggy had completed most of her college studies at Phillips University before taking time off to start raising her family. After the youngest of her children reached school age, she completed her bachelor’s degree at Northwestern Oklahoma State University in Alva, Okla. Later on, Peggy obtained her master’s degree in counseling psychology at Central State University in Edmond, Okla.

In the late 80s, Peggy and Lester moved to Goodwell, Okla., so she could become a psychometrist for the state department of education.

Peggy’s hobbies included a lifelong love of square dancing, gardening and photography. After retirement, she began taking woodworking classes, where she learned the craft of woodturning.

Peggy is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lester Miller of the home; sons, Terrel Miller of Seattle, Wash., Lyle Miller of Mobile, Ala. and David Miller and wife Rose of Goodwell, Okla.; and one granddaughter, Rae Marie Niegebaugher and husband Scott of Guymon.

Burial is 1 p.m. today, April 10, 2015, at Memorial Gardens in Enid, Okla. Funeral service is entrusted to Henson-Novak Funeral Directors of Guymon.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Canyon Camp, with the funeral home accepting the donations.
