Celebration of Life service for Leota Faye Mercer, 91, of Enid, Okla., will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with the Rev. Nathan Twyman officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Leota was born Oct. 17, 1923, in Loyal, Okla., to Curtis and Cloa Cheek Payne and passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2015, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

She was raised in Wichita, Kan., where she attended and graduated from high school.

She married Elmer Leroy Mercer on March 21, 1942, in Fairview, Okla. He passed away on Feb. 21, 1987.

In 1960, they moved to Midwest City, Okla., and returned to Enid in 1972, where Leota worked as a cook at several schools in the Enid area. She was a member of Garland Road Baptist Church. She was a leader of the Enid TOPS group for two years, where she met and cherished many friends.

Leota loved to garden, raise flowers, and fish. She enjoyed her family and especially her grandchildren.

Leota is survived by her children, Vonnie Mercer, Darlene Long and Billy Taylor, Ron Mercer and wife Lil, and Debbie Venable and husband Jerry; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Leroy; daughter, Anita; two brothers, Gilbert and Leroy; two sisters, Leona and Estella; and a great-grandson, Gunnar.
