Lloyd W. McKnight, 71, a longtime Enid attorney and prominent in civic and church activities, died Thursday afternoon after a long illness.

His funeral will be at 1:30 PM Sunday in the First United Methodist Church with Dr. Irving L. Smith and the Rev. B. Orville Parham officiating. McKnight will be buried in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Henninger – Allen Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family has suggested that those who wish to contribute to either the First United Methodist Church or the Cat Scan Fund (cancer) at St. Mary's Hospital in McKnight's memory with the funeral home serving as the custodian of the fund.

McKnight was born November 3, 1907, in Anadarko and came with his parents to Enid in 1919. After graduating from high school here, he graduated from Iowa State University at Ames, with a degree in economics.

McKnight also graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.

McKnight and Sara M. (Sally) Barlow of Hominy were married June 3, 1934.

He had practiced law in Enid since 1931, until ill health forced his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Garfield County, the Oklahoma and the American Bar Associations. McKnight was past Pres. of the Garfield County Bar Association.

McKnight was director and emeritus of Mid – Western Life Insurance Company and served on the Board of Directors of the St. Mary's Hospital, Community Bank and Trust Company and the Great Salt Plains Council Boy Scouts of America. He also served on the Board of Directors during the construction phase of the Methodist Golden Age Home and the YMCA.

McKnight was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and had served as chairman of the Board of Trustees.

He was a member of the Rotary Club and while attending the University of Oklahoma was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Theta Fraternity.

McKnight was preceded in death by a sister and his father, L. E. McKnight.

He is survived by his wife Sally of the home at 1810 Comanche Drive; a daughter, Mrs. Greer (Mary) Gisell, Wichita, Kansas; a son, Richard L. McKnight of Enid; four grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. L. E. (Odie) McKnight, Enid; two sisters, Mrs. George (Mildred) Ready, Hartington, Nebraska, and Mrs. George (Doris) Miles, Shawnee Mission, Kansas.
