George McCormick

The funeral service for George McCormick, age 90, will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, 2008, at the Central Christian Church. Rev. John McLemore and Rev. Don Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

George was born April 1, 1918, in Lincoln, KS, to Charles and Lura Griffith McCormick and died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

He graduated from Nash High School in 1936, and attended Alva College after graduation. He served in the Army Air Corps, working on P-38s, Lightning and P-47s, Thunderbolt in the Pacific Theater and was discharged in 1945. Six weeks prior to his service, on Sept. 5, 1942, in Wichita, KS, he married Wilma Rine. They had been married for 66 years.

He worked for the telephone company for eight years in Nash and moved to Enid in 1954. He started with OG&E in 1954, and retired on his birthday, in 1983, after 30 years.

They did some traveling after his retirement. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge 80 for 57 years.

He is survived by his wife, Wilma of the home; two children, Raenelle VanCoevering and husband, Lary of Yukon, OK, Monte McCormick and wife, Anita of Enid; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Harley McCormick of Ringwood, who died later the same day, Dec. 26, 2008, and Cloyde Dale McCormick of Nash; and sister, Hazel Smidtz of Wichita, KS.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard McCormick, three brothers and six sisters.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home as custodian of the funds.
