Enid Docter Collapses At Home, Dies

Dr. Hugh Mathews, well known Enid physician, was pronounced dead on arrival at an Enid hospital Thursday afternoon, July 13, 1972, after suffering an apparent heart attack.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 AM in the Ladusau – Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. John Russell will officiate, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The 57 – year old radiologist was rushed to the hospital when his wife found him collapsed on the floor of their home at 1418 Seneca. He had served as consultant to a number of hospitals in the Enid area.

He was born November 1, 1914, in Hoyt, Kansas, and came to Enid in July, 1954, from Oklahoma City.

Dr. Mathews attended school at Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, the University of Kansas at Lawrence and St. Louis Medical School. He took his residency at the University Hospital in Oklahoma City.

Dr. Mathews with a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge at Topeka and the Oklahoma State Radiologists Society.

He was a member of the Garfield County Medical Association. A veteran of World War I I, the doctor served in the medical corps.

He is survived by his wife, the former Deloris Doll; two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Karen) Barterfeld of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mrs. Kenneth (Rachel) Zaloudek Jr., Taiwan; two grandsons, Christopher and Jeffrey Barterfeld; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Mathews of Topeka, Kansas.
