Doctor Claud O. Mahaffey, 77, 2022 W. Randolph, died Sunday evening, November 28, 1971, in a local hospital following a five – weeks illness.

Funeral services for Doctor Mahaffey will be at 11 AM Wednesday in the First United Methodist Church with Doctor John Russell and Doctor Robert J. Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of the Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.

All Masons are asked to sit as honorary pallbearers and there will be Masonic graves side rites.

The family requests that those who wish make contributions to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation Heart Fund in Doctor Mahaffey's memory. Henninger – Allen will serve as custodian of contributions.

Born in Kansas, he moved to the Goltry area with his parents as a small boy and graduated from Veterinary college in Kansas City in 1917. The following year he was commissioned a second Lieutenant in the Veterinary Corps and served overseas until his discharge in 1919. He returned to practice in Goltry until moving to Enid 25 years ago.

Doctor Mahaffey continued his practice here, making his last call three days before entering the hospital.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the American Legion, the Goltry Masonic Lodge and the Enid Knights Templar. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a past patron of the Eastern Star.

Doctor Mahaffey held a lifetime membership in the Oklahoma Veterinary Association, had been awarded a 50 – year membership pin and at the time of his death had completed 54 years of veterinary service in northern Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife, Emma of the home; three step daughters, Mrs. Mary Paul, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Mrs. Floyd (Agnes) Austin, Enid and Mrs. Lennie (Rose) Shortell, Alexandria, Virginia; two step sons, Joe Quinn, Salinas, California, and Leonard Quinn, Wichita, Kansas; a sister, Mrs. Matilda Elsea, Moberly, Missouri; a brother, Leo Mahaffey, Goltry.

A son, Claud Jr., was killed in action during World War II.
