Mildred Lavon LISLE

Mildred Lavon Jackson Lisle, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2008, surrounded by her family in Edmond, Oklahoma. Mildred was 81. Mildred and her husband, Kenneth E. Lisle, were residents of Edmond, Oklahoma

Mildred, known to her friends as “Millie” and her family as “MeMe,” was born in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on December 6, 1926, to Lon Tyler and Inez Graham Jackson. She grew up in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, and graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1944. She graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in business administration in 1948. During her college years, she was president of Alpha Phi Sorority. It was at OU that she met her future husband Kenneth. Mildred and Kenneth were married in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, on January 25, 1948, when they were both seniors at OU. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on January 25th of this year. Kenneth and Mildred lived in Enid, Oklahoma, for 50 years and raised their family there. They were long-time, devoted members of the First Presbyterian Church in Enid, where Mildred spent many hours in volunteer work. Mildred, who her family describes as the “ideal mom,” enjoyed being a part of all of her children’s activities and creating a wonderful home for her family. She worked part-time for 15 years at C.M. Miller Gift Shop in Enid.

She was a long-time member and past president of Chapter Q PEO in Enid. During their years in Enid, Kenneth and Mildred developed many lifelong and cherished friends. In 2004, Kenneth and Mildred moved to Edmond, Oklahoma, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They became members of the First Presbyterian Church in Edmond. Mildred transferred her PEO membership to Chapter FH in Edmond, and made many wonderful new friends. Mildred enjoyed spending her time in Bible study, playing bridge and reading. Her favorite activity, above all, was spending time with her family.

Mildred will be greeted in heaven by her father, Lon Tyler Jackson; her mother, Inez Graham Jackson; and her sisters, Reba Jackson Hinderer and Wilma Jackson Davidson. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Eugene Lisle, of the home; and their sons, Ken and his wife, Laurie; Mark and his wife, Candy; and Todd and his wife, Donna, all of Edmond. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Kelli and Coby Wilson, Chad and Angela Lisle, Tyler and Darin Kent, Stuart Lisle, Maddie Lisle, Jackson Lisle, Connor Lisle, Peter Schmidt, Maria Schmidt, Madeleine Schmidt, Jennie Davis, Courtney Garton; and great-grandchildren, Briley Wilson, Addison Wilson and Ryan Kent. Mildred leaves behind many loving friends as well.

Mildred was a woman who exuded kindness, warmth and class. Throughout her illness, she inspired her family and friends with her optimism, lack of complaint and selfless concern for others. She was genuinely interested in her family and friends, and always made each one feel special, loved and treasured. Her hallmark was her ability to listen and demonstrate how much she cared about each and every detail of the lives of her family, friends and acquaintances. She intuitively knew what others’ needs were and how to best serve them. Her non-judgmental spirit, loving disposition and acceptance of others was evidence of her godliness and Christian life. Mildred will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. We are all comforted by Mildred’s faith and God’s assurance that Mildred is in heaven with Jesus, where we will all reunite someday.

Formal visitation with the family will be held today, January 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, Oklahoma. Services will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Edmond, 1001 South Rankin, under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home. Burial services will follow at 3 p.m. in Enid at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid, Oklahoma.
