September 29, 1933 - December 26, 2020

The services celebrating and honoring the life of John David Lamerton, will be held 1:00 P.M Monday January 4, 2020, in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

John was born September 29, 1933, to Judge Park William and Julia Margaret Lamerton in Enid, Oklahoma, and passed from this life December 26, 2020, in Enid, Oklahoma.

John was a proud graduate of Enid High School and Oklahoma A&M, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. John started his career with Champlin Petroleum Company and as an executive his duties took him from Enid, Oklahoma, to Fort Worth, Texas, and finally to Houston, Texas, where he retired from Champlin.

Always a worker and handball player, he went to work for a great handball friend's company, Southwest Wire and Rope. John spent 40 years in Houston (almost turned him into a Texan) before returning to Enid to be with family. He loved and missed his dear friends, flying buddies, and neighbors in Texas. As a captain of his Army Reserve unit, he made lifelong friendships. As an elder in the First Presbyterian Church, he served his Savior. As a husband, father, and Granddad (Bompa) he taught us how to live. As a lifelong YMCA member and handball player, he taught us how to compete. As an aging man he taught us perseverance and when to say goodbye.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Judge Park W. Lamerton and Julia Margaret Lamerton and his beloved brother, Park W. Lamerton II.

John is survived by his loving wife Karen of 65 years, his beloved Lab Riley, his sister Suzie Cameron, son David Lamerton and wife Kay and daughter Christy Lamerton; 4 grandchildren: John W. Lamerton and wife Jeri of Billings, MT, Katie Gungoll and husband Will of Enid, Megan Collmus and husband J.P. of Ridgecrest, CA, Joseph Lamerton, and wife Kelli of Enid; 9 great-grandchildren: Ashlyn (husband Dylan), Kaytlyn (fiancé Tim), Tori, Peyton, Maggie, Rett, Harrison, Jacquelyn, Mark. 2 great-great-grandchildren: Joselynn, Easton.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be given in his honor to the Enid YMCA with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Race Well Run Bomp!
