Noreen (Hoover) Lenz
Sunday, October 6th, 1935 - Thursday, October 5th, 2023
Noreen Lenz passed away into the arms of her heavenly Father on October 5, 2023, surrounded by family at her home in Enid. Her big heart finally wore out after nearly 88 years of unconditional love for everyone she knew. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, October 9, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Enid, with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Noreen was raised on a farm near Elmwood in the Oklahoma panhandle. As the oldest of eight children, she naturally fell into the role of second mother and was always there to support her siblings and their families. She met Bud Lenz in college at NWOSU in Alva, and they married in 1954. They moved to Enid in 1959 and raised their four children in a loving home.
Noreen worked at Vance AFB as the health benefits advisor, retiring in 1995. She received the Air Training Command's Health Benefits Advisor of the Year Award in 1988. She also worked part-time as a medical transcriptionist for more than 40 years at Enid Memorial and Bass hospitals. Noreen served as president of both the Altrusa Club of Enid, and the OK Medical Transcriptionist Association (OMTA). As OMTA president, she traveled to different states for annual meetings, often taking along her mother and a friend to enjoy the trip. Noreen was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Enid.
Noreen enjoyed traveling, reading, ceramics and sewing. As her health declined, she had fun doing jigsaw and crossword puzzles, word games on her Ipad, and keeping up with family and friends on Facebook. However, her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends, especially her five grandchildren, and later her six great-grandchildren. Her eyes would light up every time she saw them, and she spoiled them royally. She is dearly loved by all her family, and we will miss her presence in our lives.
She is survived by her three children, son Dr. Joel Dean Lenz and wife Lori, of Garfield, AR; Ruth Ann Lenz, Blackwell, OK; and Neta Louise Hercyk and husband John, of Ponca City, OK; five grandchildren, Kelsi Marie Lenz, and her partner, Christina, of Davenport, FL; Colby Dean Lenz and wife Allyson, of Overland Park, KS; Tyler Lee Lenz and wife Roxanne, of Moore, OK; Brian Hercyk, Ph. D., of Oklahoma City, OK; Katie Harrison and husband Joel, of Broken Arrow, OK; and six great-grandchildren. Five siblings also survive Noreen; Earle Hoover, Rose Marie Meyer, Mary Ann Earls, Louise Lee and Johnnie Hoover; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins and in-laws.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Grace Hoover; husband, Bud Lenz, daughter, Jayne Marie Lenz; brothers, Troy and Jerry Hoover.
Memorial contributions in Noreen's name may be made to Hospice Circle of Love with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
