Velma Ada Christina Niehus (Pope) Kroll, 97, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went to her heavenly home with Jesus on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015.

Velma was born Feb. 24, 1917, to her parents, Eldo and Anna Niehus of Fairmont, Okla.

Preceded in death by both husbands, Herbert J. Pope and Herman H. Kroll; parents; sisters, Tillie Meyer and Leona Cutter; brothers, Art, Willie and baby boy.

Velma is survived by five children: son, Gerald (Arba Jo) Pope of Covington, Okla.; daughters, Brenda (Keith) Lesher, Bonnie (Dakin) Cramer, both of Wichita, Sharlene (Vince) Micelli of Derby, Kan., Connie (David) Tajchman of Bel Aire, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Velma loved her family and always set an example of unconditional love. Her favorite saying was “always be nice,” and she lived by that in every aspect of her life.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the many years of compassionate care provided by Andover Court Assisted Living and the comfort and care given by Rivercross Hospice. Velma was a lifetime member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015, at Zion Lutheran Church, 510 Fairmont Road, Fairmont, OK 73736. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Timothy Dorsch officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
