The mass of Christian burial for Edward "Ed" Kennedy, 91 year-old former Ringwood resident will be 11:00AM Wednesday, May 2, 2018 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Deacon Tony Crispo will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ed was born on a family dairy farm south of Ringwood. He lived on the same section of land for 85 years. Ed's grandparents were born and raised in Ireland. They moved to Wichita, KS. where his father one day noticed an ad in the local paper for a farm for sale in Noble County, OK. His father jumped on a train, bought the farm, and moved to his new home.
Ed had two brothers and three sisters. Both of his brothers were killed in WWII, and his sisters each moved away after finishing school. Ed remained on the farm to assist his parents. He enjoyed milking and taking care of their 25 dairy cows. When his parents retired and moved a few miles away, Ed began thinking about marriage. His wife Jean became his life partner, and together they built a family of three daughters and a son. Ed and Jean were active in the farm bureau and with their children's activities. They were members of the Catholic faith and attended mass at several locations.
Ed had attended grade school in a small schoolhouse that had been built on one corner of their family farm. After the school closed in 1968, Ed and Jean moved from the family house into the schoolhouse where he and his siblings had attended classes as children, converting on of the classrooms into a garage.
Ed discovered an interest in woodworking when he was 70. He purchased a scroll saw and created works of art which he showed at arts and craft shows and gave as gifts to friends and family. Ehen Jean moved into the Commons Health Care Center in 2012, Ed moved into Asbury apartments to be near her.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Moore and husband James of Stillwater, Linda Lassiter and husband Floyd, of Boyd, TX. and Bev Young and husband Brad of Colleyville, TX. 5 grandchildren; Christy Prescott, Joe Moore, Heather Brock, Brent Young, and Chasity Kennedy. 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one son Kenneth Leroy Kennedy, two brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to either Hospice Circle of Love or Good Shepherd Hospice.
