Mrs. Gertrude O. Hunter, 76, longtime executive Secretary of the Garfield County Red Cross, died early Thursday in a Buffalo hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Hunter will be at 1 PM Saturday in the Chapel of the Brown Funeral Home with the Reverend Robert Young officiating. She will be buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.

The body will lie in state until service time and the casket will not be opened afterward.

Mrs. Hunter's family has suggested that those who wish make contributions to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation in her memory. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Mrs. Hunter was born on the 101 Ranch at Marland and came to Enid with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ben U. Feuquay, in 1910. She graduated from Enid high school and at the time of her retirement from the Red Cross in 1973, had served as executive secretary for 21 years.

Mrs. Hunter had coordinated all the volunteer service of the Red Cross in the County, including the bloodmobile, staff aides, Gray Ladies, first aid classes and volunteers working with the families of servicemen. She moved to Buffalo after her retirement.

Mrs. Hunter was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Joleen) Biggs of Riverside, California; a son, Dick H. Hunter, Buffalo; a sister, Mrs. Lucille Lehnen, Chanute, Kansas; seven grandchildren and five great – grandchildren.

The family will be at the Joe Biggs residence at 514 S. Taylor.
