Funeral service for Donna Jean Hughes, age 63, of Enid will be 2 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 28, 2015, at Christ United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kim Domnick and Rev. Jim Jones officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Oct. 27, at the funeral home.

Donna was born April 3, 1952, in Bloomington, Ill., to Milford Isaac and Mary Catherine Arrant Davis and passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2015, at her home, after a battle with cancer.

She spent her early childhood in Dewitt, Ill., before the family moved to California. She attended school in Santa Maria, Calif., until the family moved to Henry, Ill., when she was a teenager and later the family moved to Chickasha, where Donna graduated from Chickasha High School.

Donna received her nurse’s aide training at the Vo-Tech in Chickasha. She later completed her LPN nurse’s training at Canadian Valley Vo-Tech in El Reno. She was working as director of nurses at Shannon Springs Nursing Home in Chickasha, when she met her husband Steven John Hughes. They later moved to Enid, where Donna worked in several church child care programs and nurseries including First United Methodist Church’s Mother’s Day Out program and Christ United Methodist Church’s Children’s Day Out program.

She later attended Phillips University and received her Bachelor of Science in education degree. Donna taught sixth grade at McKinley Elementary School and later at Garfield Elementary School. She spent the last few years working part-time teaching at Garfield and Adams elementary schools.

Donna and her husband Steve opened Hughes Pharmacy in Medford in 2012 and were involved in the operation of the drug store.

Donna is survived by her husband Steve, of the home; five children, Jennifer Lynn Fowler and husband Adam of Dayton, Ohio, Steven John Hughes II of Fort Smith, Ark., Ashely Hughes of Enid, Roger Allen Hughes and wife Elizabeth of Midway Park, N.C., and Aaron Matthew Hughes of Enid; two grandsons, Mason Alexander Nance and Carter Xavier Nance; five sisters and brothers, Milford J. Davis of Beloit, Wis., Karen J. Davis of Enid, Rodney A. Telomen and wife Lisa of LaGrange, Ill., Bette L. Baker of McCloud, and Terry G. Davis of Salt Lake City, Utah; and 15 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church (Children’s Day Out program), Hospice Circle of Love, or Enid Symphony Orchestra with Ladusau-Evans serving as custodians of the funds.
