Memorial Park Cemetery

Tyler Hoeltzel was born November 1, 1989, in Enid, Oklahoma, to Anthony and Ginger Hoeltzel, and died Wednesday, July 16, 2008, in a vehicle accident west of Orienta. According to a family member, “Tyler fell asleep driving and woke up to meet Jesus.”

When Tyler was seven his father was killed in an accident. Even though Tyler has carried that pain with him all these years, he was still able to be a positive and productive addition to his family, his school, and his activities. Tyler was 11 when his mother married Richard Spady. Richard fell in love with the boys early on and asked them to be the “best men” at his wedding. Richard adopted Tyler and his name became Stephan Tyler Spady Hoeltzel.

Tyler was a very outgoing and personable young man with big dreams and a bigger future. He was returning home from Colorado where he had found a place to live and finished up his college enrollment and was ready to attend Red Rocks College in August and transfer to the Colorado School of Mines in January. He had also received several scholarships from the University of Oklahoma and the OU Honors College to attend University of Oklahoma College of Engineering. These awards include The Award of Excellence Scholarship and The Sooner Opportunity Award. Tyler attended school through the seventh grade at Pioneer Pleasant Vale and Drummond Schools from eighth to twelfth grade. He graduated from the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics (Enid Campus) in 2007, and graduated from Drummond High School May 16, 2008. He graduated as a Valedictorian and had recently been selected Oklahoma Academic Team All-State. Tyler was very active in band, FFA, quiz bowl, and academic team. For the last five years, he auditioned with his trumpet and made several area honor bands including All-Area, Red Carpet, Tri-State Honor Band, and K101 Classic Bowl. He was a four year starter on the Drummond High School Quiz Bowl Team and helped win the last four of the 11 straight state titles won by Drummond. He was named an All-Star and made the All Tournament team at several meets over the last five years. He attended the National Academic Quiz Tournament in Chicago with his team for three years. Tyler auditioned and made the state FFA chorus for the last two years. Tyler was active in FFA he attended the MFE and ALD conferences yearly and also attended the FFA Washington Leadership Conference in 2007. He showed pigs in various livestock shows at the local, county, and district level. He has shown his favorite breed, Duroc, at the Tulsa State Fair, The Oklahoma Youth Expo, and the Arizona National Livestock show.

Tyler was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Drummond and active in the United As One youth group. He also attended youth group at Cedar Ridge Wesleyan Church in Enid. In 8th, 9th, and 10th grade he was a volunteer in the Junior Docent Program at Leonardo's Discovery Warehouse. He also competed at the Payne County Company Spelldown, representing the Masonic Lodges of Oklahoma. Tyler was a giver - if there was a need he would try to help in any way that he could. Tyler's interests include playing pool, rock climbing, hunting, playing his bass guitars, and music. He loved hanging out with his friends at the Flamingo or Q-Spot to just have a good time and a burger. He was such a good son and would take his brother and sister to the movies, bowling, and just hanging out. He was an adored big brother.

Tyler is survived by his father and mother, Richard and Ginger Spady, of Drummond, his brother Branden “Lil Bro” and his sister Brianna “Sissy” of the home and his pet snake python “Monty”; his maternal grandparents Donald Haub and Pauleta Maggard, his paternal grandparents Steve and Gail Hoeltzel, all of Enid, and paternal grandmother Mary Ann Spady of Shattuck.
