Ruth M. Nichols Henley

The funeral for Ruth M. Henley, 100, will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. The Revs. Ron Olson and David Martinez Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

She was born May 14, 1907, in Wichita, Kan., to Charles A. and Icie Gratner Nichols and died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, in Enid.

She graduated from Enid High School in 1926 and later attended Miltonville Wesleyan Bible School in Kansas. She worked for the Navy for more than 27 years as a LVN nurse at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital in Oceanside, Calif. In 1941, she briefly returned to Enid, where she was ordained as a minister.

She married Jose Sanchez March 1944. He died in 1954.

She was a missionary with Wesleyan Church to a Mexican mission first in Carlsbad, Calif., then in Oceanside, Calif., and Vista, Calif. She also was a missionary to Mexico, where she interpreted Spanish for carpenters building the churches. She also taught in Texas at a school for handicapped students and itinerant workers for two years.

She married John Harold Henley Dec. 18, 1984, in Mercedes, Texas. They moved back to California and worked with missions in Encenada, Baja and Mexico. She also worked in a daycare in Vista, Calif. She returned to Enid in 1996.

Surviving are one daughter, Rachel Lyons of Milton, Del.; one sister, Olive Hobbs of Enid; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice Circle of Love.
