ENID — The funeral service for Carl Hendley, 90, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 2010, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the U.S. Army. Arrangements are by Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

Carl was born Sept. 27, 1919, in Valiant, Okla., to Ralph and Delia Hendley and died Saturday, May 1, 2010, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center.

He attended Fort Towson, Okla., schools until he began working for the Civilian Conservation Corp. during the Depression. He joined the Army in 1943 and served during World War II as a surgical technician with the 80th Infantry Division until 1945.

Carl married Mary Kathryn “Katie” Johnson on July 5, 1946, in Wellington, Kan., and moved to Enid. He then was employed by Frisco Railroad as an engineer for 38 years until he retired in 1991. He was a member of First Baptist Church and active with his Sunday school class.

During his retirement, he loved playing golf, traveling and watching his grandson play baseball. He was a talented craftsman who enjoyed woodworking and repair projects for his family and friends.

Carl was a dedicated, loving father and grandfather. Family always came first.

He is survived by a son, Steve Hendley of Edmond; one daughter, Lisa Fellows of Littleton, Colo.; three sisters, Hazel Reese of Hugo, Okla., Helen Corley of Durant, Okla., and Jessie Hall of Broken Bow, Okla.; and three grandchildren, Allison Graff and Blake Hendley, both of Edmond and Taylor Fellows of Littleton, Colo.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Katie; three brothers, William Hendley, Arnold Hendley and Jack Hendley; and one sister, Pearl Wright.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation or First Baptist Church building fund.
