ENID — Funeral service for Martin Harris will be 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at Anderson - Burris Funeral Home Chapel followed by the procession to Memorial Park Cemetery. Service is under the direction of Anderson - Burris Funeral Home.

Martin Leon Harris was born to Orval and Hildegard Harris on Nov. 19, 1952, in Ft. Benning, Ga., and passed away at Hospice House in Oklahoma City on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, after a short bout with cancer.

Martin was an only child and saw many places, including Japan and California, growing up in a military family. The Harris family eventually settled in northwest Oklahoma, where Martin attended Waller Junior High School and Hennessey High School.

Martin enlisted in the United States Army and was assigned to the 51st Infantry. He was deployed to Vietnam, where he served in the 101st Airborne, Special Forces, from 1971 to 1972. He was injured in combat and honorably discharged with a Purple Heart. He received several other medals and badges for his service.

After returning to Oklahoma, Martin worked various jobs at Vance Air Force Base.

He met Linda Jo McBlair in 1978 and they were soon married. Martin later went to work for Dowell Schlumberger. In his 20 years of employment, he was an equipment operator, driver safety trainer, and service supervisor. Following his lengthy career with Dowell, he began work in the environmental field. In 2000, he became a proud co-owner of EcoSystems Environmental Services Inc. with his daughter. He retired from the company in 2009.

Martin loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and golfing. He was a member of American Legion, Vietnam Veterans of America and Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Linda Harris; two married daughters, Kristi Brooks and husband Phillip and Crystal McCoy and husband Dirk; and two grandchildren, Coleton and Olivia McCoy, that were his pride and joy.
