Funeral service for Jean C. Harmon, 94, formerly of Enid, Okla., will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Ladusau-Evans Chapel, with the Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Jean was born Oct. 23, 1919, in Morris, Okla., to Gladys and Lil Stoner and died Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, at the Belmont at Twin Creeks nursing facility in Allen, Texas. Jean spent her early years living back and forth between Okmulgee, Okla., and Detroit, Mich., where her father, Lil Stoner, was a pitcher for the Detroit Tigers major league baseball team. She attended Okmulgee High School and graduated in 1937. Following high school, she received training as an apprentice in a beauty shop in Okmulgee.

She moved to Enid in 1939, and worked as a hairdresser for 60 years and owned her own beauty shop.

She married Gene Harmon on April 4, 1942, in Enid. They were married for 63 years at Gene’s death in 2005. They had two daughters and raised them in Enid.

Throughout her life, Jean was adventurous and loved to try new things. As a young woman, Jean loved to dance and always kept up with the latest Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire movies of the day. She also enjoyed traveling and went on various trips, including heli-hiking in the Canadian Rockies.

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Enid for 65 years and served in many capacities, including teaching an adult Sunday school class, singing in the choir and serving on various committees and missions organizations.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda Pruett and husband Charles of McKinney, Texas, and Sulyn Wilkins and husband Mike of Hendersonville, Tenn.; sister, Sue Partridge of Avondale Estates, Ga.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, her parents, one brother and a sister.

She was much loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
