A Celebration of Life for Joan Dorrington Haltom, age 92 years, of Enid, is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Vernon Lee officiating. Burial follows in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Joan is 6-7:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Joan was born August 19, 1925, in Kent, England, to Walter and Nell (Kirkaldie) Dorrington, and passed away Tuesday, February 27, 2018, in Enid. Joan attended Stanford College of Nursing. She met the love of her life, Marvin Haltom in Nottingham, England, at an Army Air Corp dance, just before the end of WWII. They were married on April 11, 1945, in Peterborough, England. Joan and Marvin welcomed their first born child, a daughter Phyllis Jean, on July 5, 1947. On December 1, 1958, they welcomed their second daughter, Kathy Lynn. Together they farmed east of Waynoka and operated their dairy farm until 1956, when they moved to Enid. Joan was a homemaker and Marvin was self-employed. Joan loved sewing, needlepoint, crocheting and was also an avid gardener who grew the most beautiful roses and African violets. What Joan enjoyed the most was spending time with her granddaughters and great-grandchildren, and they cherished time spent with her as well.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Nell Dorrington; her husband Marvin L. Haltom; brother, Robert Walter Dorrington; three sisters, Margaret Wight, Phyllis Dorrington, and Barbara Dorrington; step-mother, Blanche Dorrington; step-sister, Shirley McChesney; and nephew, Richard Wight.

Joan is survived by two daughters, Phyllis Johns of Talequah; Kathy James and husband Tim, of Enid; two granddaughters, Jennifer Davis and husband Aaron, of Springdale, Arkansas; Christina James, of Midwest City, Oklahoma; five great-grandchildren, Kylie, Noah, Alec, Emma, and Asher; two nieces, Margaret Derritt and Marcia Kovacs.

Memorials in Joan's name may be made to the Hydrocephalus Association, with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.

Funeral services for Marvin L. Haltom, 56, 2117 W. Maple, will be at 10 AM Saturday in the Chapel of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with the Rev. Barney Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The body will lie in state until 9 AM Saturday.

Haltom was killed in a traffic accident near Watonga early Thursday. He was born November 16, 1922, in Enid and later moved to Alva where he graduated from high school in 1941. Haltom served in the United States Army during World War II.

Haltom was awarded the distinguished unit badge and service ribbon with one silver star and two bronze stars. His campaigns were in Northern France, Central Europe, Rome – Arno, Rhineland, Normandy, and Southern France.

He and Joan Dorrington were married April 11, 1945, at Peterborough, England. He farmed south of Alva until moving to Enid in 1956. Haltom was employed by Headlee Oil Company at the time of his death.

In addition to his wife Joan of the home, he is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Phyllis) Johns and Mrs. Tim (Kathy) James, both of Enid; his parents, Wes and Sella Haltom, Alva and a sister, Arlene Wallace, Tempe, Arizona.
