Memorial Park Cemetery


Roy Holdeman, 96 year old Laverne resident passed away, Tuesday, November 22, 2022 in Buffalo. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. in the Willow Road Christian Church on Saturday, December 3, 2022. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Billings Funeral Home.

Roy was born in Newton, Kansas on July 16, 1926. He graduated from Newton High School and attended Phillips University In Enid OK.

Roy enlisted in the Army Air Corps on January 11, 1945 to become a pilot. He served at Army AirCorps bases in Biloxi MI, Hobbs, NM, and Denver, CO before the war was over. He left active duty October 31, 1945. He stayed in the Reserves and wanted to reenlist during the Korean Conflict, but due to transportation issues, and having a wife with two young children, he decided to serve his country in another way. He became a fire fighter in Wellington, KS. Later, he worked various jobs supporting his growing family. He became a Postal clerk and served more than 30 years in that capacity.

Roy married Wanda Bernice Dunn on June 7, 1947 in Enid OK. They lived in Enid for a short time after marriage, moved to Wellington, KS in 1948, then back to Enid OK in 1951, finally moving to Laverne, OK in fall of 2018.

Their family brought them the most joy, as well as serving God and their church. They were charter members of Willow Road Christian Church in Enid, working and serving faithfully as long as they were able.

Roy started singing in church as a child, studied vocal music at Phillips University, and sang for numerous weddings, funerals, church services, and events. He became active in the Barbershop Harmony Society in 1973 and was the Enid chapter president several times. He sang with several choruses and quartets as well. While singing with Music Central Chorus in Oklahoma City, he was privileged to sing "O Holy Night" at Governor Frank Keating's Christmas Party. George W Bush (then governor of Texas) was in attendance and shook Roy's hand. Roy gave all his children the love of music. Roy also performed at various nursing homes singing for the residents while his friend Doug Swanson played piano. Roy also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He raised calves, chickens, and all sorts of vegetables to provide for his family.

Roy was preceded in death by: His wife, Wanda B Holdeman of Laverne OK; two sons: Paul Leroy of Enid OK; and Gary Holdeman of Laverne OK; a daughter and spouse: Virginia and Roger Thomas, of Enid; two sons-in-law: Everett Ingram of Enid and Cleburne L Webb Jr of Kansas City, his parents; Roy and Nellie Holdeman of Wellington, KS, his father and mother-in-law; Claude and Sally Dunn of Enid, two sisters and spouses; Mary Anna and Albert Petersen of Wichita, and Bonnie and George Clark of Tulsa, his sister-in-law/spouse and brother-in-law/spouse; Betty and James Shelton of Opelousas, LA and Garrell Dunn and Ruby Jones of Oklahoma City, two great granddaughters; Sara Cronister, and Andrea Hollister of Mooreland, OK, and a great grandson; Nicholas Barnett of Enid.

Roy is survived by two daughters; Kathryn Webb of Shawnee, KS and Mary Ingram of Enid OK, one son/spouse; Mark Holdeman and Lindsay Chartier-Holdeman of Frisco Tx; daughter in law, Joyce Holdeman of Laverne, OK.

Grandchildren: Brian and Allison Holdeman of Olathe, KS; Angela and David Cronister of Mooreland, OK; Joseph and Jennifer Webb of St. Petersburg, FL; Jeffery and Emily Webb of Shawnee, KS; Jonathan Webb of El Paso, TX; Joshua Webb of Kansas City, MO; Justin and Lena Seckman of Enid, OK; Amanda Seckman of Enid, OK; Heather and Matt Barnett of Enid, OK, and Russell and Misty Ingram of Enid.

Great Grandchildren: Ashley and Cody Wildin of Mooreland OK; David and Amy Cronister of Mooreland OK, Ethan Cronister; Gannon Holdeman of Camp Lejune, NC; Grant Holdeman of Ft. Eustis, VA; Jacob and Olivia Norris of Olathe, KS; Keegan and Anna Webb of El Paso, TX; Gideon and Abbey Webb of Bonner Springs, KS; Lucy, Damaris, and Caleb Webb of Shawnee, KS; Anastasia Webb of Kansas City, KS; Steven Webb of Wellington, KS. ; Steven and Cecelia Turmel of Bedford, ME; Isabella Seckman of Enid, OK; Jordan Seckman of Lamar, Ar; Allison Ingram of Cameron, NC; Becca Ingram of Edmund, OK, Marideth and Anthony Mizner of Enid, OK; Jacob Ingram of Enid, OK; Abigail and Aaron Bailey of Enid, OK;Jaci Barnett of Enid, OK; Great Great Grandchildren: Alina and Addielyn Wildin of Mooreland, OK; William Jake Bailey of Enid; Numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
