Memorial Park Cemetery

Irene Rufena (Sluder) Hartman
Friday, February 23rd, 1945 - Sunday, August 20th, 2023

Funeral services for Irene "Renny" Hartman will be 10:00am, Friday, August 25, 2023 at North Garland Church of Christ with Dr. Ron Walcher officiating. Burial will follow on Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

Irene was born February 23, 1945 in Cherokee to Rufus and Merel (Decker) Sluder and passed away August 20, 2023. She lived on a farm until age 13 when the family moved to Byron, Oklahoma. She was active in sports with many trophies. She married Dennis Hartman June 1, 1963 and they celebrated 60 years together. They had two children, Keitha Rena and Monty Ray Hartman.

She received her bookkeeping certificate from OT Autry and worked keeping books for different companies.

Her love in life was to teach Bible classes from cradle roll to adults. Even when Dennis was stationed in Germany, she taught a class for the Protestant Women of the Chapel and the youth. She enjoyed watching her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids play sports. She spent many hours behind a sewing machine altering prom and wedding dresses and making her family's clothes. She started making quilts after kids were grown following Dennis in the Army. She made quilts for cancer, DHS, Quilts of Valor, Benny's Barns, seniors graduating at church, fire victims, baby showers, friends, and family. She made a quilt for each kindergarten student in her granddaughter's kindergarten class. She also made over 200 masks for the COVID-19 pandemic, and over 200 pillowcases for food pantry and missionaries. 40 pillowcases went to her granddaughter's 1st grade students where her granddaughter teaches.

Renny is survived by her husband of 60 years, Dennis Hartman; children, Keitha Depanion, and husband Jay; grandchildren, Samantha Nelson and husband Dalton, Garrett Hartman, Tyler Hartman, and wife Emily; great grandchildren, Madi and Deacon; sisters, Marlene German, and Patty Sherman.

She is preceded in death by her parents; son, Monty Hartman, and wife Jill; siblings, Gerald and Tom Sluder, Dorthy Schmitz, Emma Walcher, and Doris Sluder.
