Submitted by: Jo Aguirre

A graveside service for Edward L. "Ed" Fuls, age 84, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, in Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Jeff Jackson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Ed was born Nov. 15, 1924, in Enid, OK, to William J. and Eva Webb Fuls and passed away early Saturday morning, Jan. 17, 2009, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center after a period of ill health.

Ed attended and graduated from Enid Public Schools in 1941. He married Ethel Marie Cooley on July 17, 1946, in Gulfport, MS, and she passed away March 8, 1985. He entered the U.S. Navy and retired after 23 years as an E-7 chief quartermaster. For most of his naval career, Ed was stationed in Norfolk, VA, and was part of the Navy's Atlantic fleet aboard various naval vessels. While in the Navy, he traveled extensively around the world, serving in World War II, the Korean conflict and the Cuban crisis. In 1957, he served as an admiral's aide in Washington, D.C., at the Pentagon, and then returned to Norfolk and the Atlantic fleet. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a postal clerk and retired after 15 years. He moved to Enid in 1985 from Hitchcock, TX.

In his spare time and after retirement, Ed and his wife, Marie, continued a love for travel and meeting new friends by towing a travel trailer throughout the United States. At one time, Ed was president of the LouTex Holiday Rambler Trailer Club. Later in life he acquired a love for motorcycles, riding his trusty BMW through parts of Mexico and throughout the United States to favorite areas, including Daytona Beach, FL, Sturgis, S.D., Big Bend, TX, Paonia, CO, and Eagles Nest, N.M., all the time meeting new friends along the way. Ed's outgoing and good-natured personality will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.

He is survived by his son, Billy Fuls of Corpus Christi, TX; his daughter, Sandra Griffin of Mt. Grove, MO; three grandchildren, Vicki Blackey, Tom "Chip" Griffin, and Kevin Fuls; three great-grandchildren, Kyle, Alex and Luke; one sister, Dorothy Fink of Wichita, KS. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
