Clarence Eugene Fridley, loving father and U.S. Marine, passed away late Saturday evening, April 15, 2006 at his residence at the age of 81 years.

The son of the late Floyd E. Fridley and Pearl B. Meyers, Clarence was born at home on September 19, 1924, in Coldwater, Kansas and was reared and educated there before moving to Enid, Oklahoma where he finished High School.

Clarence enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on November 17, 1941 and proudly served until his discharge on December 1, 1945. As part of the Amphibious Reconnaissance Battalion,

Clarence fought in the battles of Midway, Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima and Okinawa to name only a few. Until his health began to fail, Clarence was an active member of the Marine Corps Force Recon Association and loved seeing and talking with his old buddies from the service.

After leaving the Marine Corps, Clarence married Norma Lee Lumen on December 27, 1945, in Santa Monica, California where they lived for about one year. They moved to Stillwater where Clarence studied at Oklahoma State (Oklahoma A&M) and graduated with a degree in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration on May 31, 1948. He worked for a time at Billings Electric in Enid.

Later, Clarence and Norma moved to the plains of West Texas where he began his career in the oil field in the cities of Stanton, Midland and Borger. He was president of Borger/Phillips Jaycees for several years. Clarence and Norma came to Cushing in 1975, moving here from Borger, Texas. He retired from Phillips Petroleum on February 1, 1982 after 30 years. After retirement, Clarence worked for Eseco until deciding to stay at home with Norma whose health had begun to decline.

Clarence was a very active member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a Teacher in the Church. He helped to build the RLDS church building in Borger.

He enjoyed fishing, bowling, golfing, reading and spending time with his family and helping others in need. He very often gave freely of his time to mow a disabled friend?s yard, repair a home when they couldn?t afford it or just be there to listen to their troubles and offer friendly advice.

Survivors include his two daughters, Cindy Lidberg and Melody Gosnell of Cushing; son Steven of Round Rock, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Inez, Beatrice and Maxine.

Visitation will be on Tuesday and the family will also greet friends in the Davis Memorial Chapel on Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 11:30.

Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid.

Semper Fi, Dad! We love and miss you!
