David A. Franklin, 18, Enid, died of massive chest injuries after his car struck a bridge abutment near Hillsdale in Garfield Co.

Enid Youth Dies In Auto Mishap

And 18 – year – old Enid youth became the ninth traffic fatality of 1970 in Garfield County, when his car ran off a county road near Hillsdale at 11:30 PM Tuesday.

David A. Franklin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Franklin, 109 North Coolidge died of massive chest injuries after the 1957 Pontiac he was driving ran off a county road and struck a bridge abutment. Franklin was pronounced dead on arrival at an Enid hospital.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper Ray Henry said Franklin's car was traveling west on the county road and for some unknown reason ran off the north side into the borrow ditch where it struck a bridge abutment. The mishap is still under investigation.

Franklin had been working on a farm north of Hillsdale and it was possible he was returning home when the accident occurred.

Franklin was born in Bryan, Texas, and attended Hillsdale schools until 1961. He made his home in Enid in 1968 and was a 1970 graduate of Enid high school. He was a member of the Rush Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include his parents, one brother, Gary and one sister, Sheila, both of the home; his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Lillian Bever, Hillsdale, and his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ellen Shelton, Houston, Texas.

Funeral services will be at 10 AM Saturday in the Henninger – Allen Chapel with Rev. James F. Metheny, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A Memorial fund will be established at the Rush Avenue Baptist Church.

David Arthur "Dave" Franklin of 109 N. Coolidge died early Wednesday morning as a result of injuries received in a 1-car accident 1 mile west of the Midway corner.

Dave was born in Bryan, Texas, attended schools in Hillsdale until 1961 and has made his home in Enid since 1968 and graduated from EHS in 1970. Attended Rush Avenue Baptist Church.

Survivors include: parents, Mr. and Mrs. Donald E. Franklin, 109 N. Coolidge, Enid; Sister Sheila Franklin, of the home; Brother Gary Franklin of the home; maternal grandmother Mrs. Lillian Bever, Hillsdale; paternal grandmother Mrs. Ellen Shelton, Houston, TX.

Services Saturday, 10:00AM, Henninger-Allen Chapel, the Rev. James F. Matheny officiating, burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established at the Rush Avenue Baptist Churcy in memory of Dave. Henninger-Allen and the church will act as custodians of this fund.
