The funeral service for Joe Forbes, 85, Enid, is 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 5-6:30 p.m. today, Feb.10, 2017, at the funeral home.

Joe was born Jan. 3, 1932, to John Henry and Beulah Ann (Rains) Forbes in Buffalo, and passed away on Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2017, in Oklahoma Heart Hospital. Joe graduated from Buffalo High School in 1952, and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956, thirteen months in Korea. Joe married Avis J. Fleming Jan. 12, 1954, at the First Christian Church in Buffalo.

Upon leaving the Air Force in 1956, Joe entered college at Oklahoma A & M (now OSU). He attended Panhandle Oklahoma State University and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education from OSU in 1960. He taught Ag at Clopton High School, Clarksville, Mo. Joe also worked in finance for the Missouri Extension and USDA. After receiving his masters, he joined PCA and the First National Bank of Enid. Joe retired as Garfield County Assessor in 1997. Joe volunteered at Loaves and Fishes, and was a member of Kremlin Methodist Church. He was very active in the Kremlin Lions Club and Enid Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors.

He is survived by his wife Avis of the home; two daughters Leah (Gary) Cunningham of Ringwood, and Jody (Roger) Boevers of Mustang; six grandchildren: Clayton Cunningham and Kassidy of Ringwood, Brent Boevers, Luke Boevers both of Mustang, Kristen Rosenkranz and Brent of Hydro, Brian Cunningham and Jodi of Lovington, and Keri Arreola and Armando all of Lovington, N.M.; Tucker Joe and Talon Mark Cunningham of Ringwood, Reagan and Jace Rosenkranz of Hydro, Taylor and Alyssa Arreola and son Levi, Niki Arreola, and Tres Arreola, Kylee Cunningham, Kamryn Cunningham, and Kendyl Cunningham all of Lovington, N.M.; 2 sisters Jerrie Finfrock of Tucson, Ariz., and Johnnie Olson of Freedom; and brother Bobby Forbes of Freedom.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents W.P. and Pearl (Redman) Rains, sister Billie Province, and brother Thomas Forbes.

Memorials may be made to NW Oklahoma Jr. Livestock Boosters or Oklahoma Heart Hospital.
