Ivan Wesley Dowers

ENID, Okla. - Funeral service for Ivan Wesley Dowers, 94, of Enid, will be 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home with Mr. Gene Long and Mr. Steve Long officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dowers passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. Ivan was born Jan. 4, 1918, in Enid, Okla., the son of George and Saloma Sewger Dowers. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during WWII. He served in the 434th Squadron of the 12th Bomb Group, also known as the Earthquakers, and received seven campaign ribbons for this service.

Ivan was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Reddick on April 8, 1967, in Enid, Okla. He was employed by John Deere from 1947 until his retirement in 2011. He was a founding member of the Oklahoma John Deere Tractor Club. He enjoyed spending time in his garden.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley of the home; three daughters, Amy Denise Turner and husband Richard of Medford, Okla., Patti Laine Reidhead and husband Joe of Springerville, Ariz., and Vicki Lynn Seward and husband Larry of Tulsa, Okla.; two sons, Keith Dowers and wife Debbie of Beggs, Okla., and Bruce Eldred and wife Rebecca of Fairview; nine grandchildren, Britton, Ryan, Brandon, Chad, Spencer, Kari, Kacee, Nicholas and Laurel; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Dowers of Rosehill, Kan.; two sisters, Lucille Riffel of Viola, Kan., and Avanell Long of Enid, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ivan Wesley Dowers Jr.; and a brother, Marion Dowers

Memorial contributions may be made to the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C., with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.
