ENID — Funeral service for Gaylord Fred Smith, 92, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, at Hillsdale Bible Church. Rev. Curt Zachary will officiate. Burial will be in Hillsdale Cemetery . Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Gaylord was born Sept. 3, 1918, in Battle Creek, Mich., to Albert and Florence (Lord) Smith and died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center, Enid, Okla.

He graduated from Marshall High School in 1935 and from Moody Bible Institute in 1938.

He met Beulah May Messenger at Moody and they were married Aug. 20, 1938 in Hillsdale , Okla.

At age 16, Gaylord gave his heart and life to Christ, serving Him faithfully throughout his life. He was ordained to the gospel ministry at Ainger Bible Church in 1941. He served as an Ozark Mountain missionary; pastor of Gospel Church, Charlotte, Mich.; evangelist with Youth Gospel Crusade of Wheaton, Ill.; pastor of Clarksville Bible Church, Clarksville, MI; interim pastor of Lockwood Community Church, Lockwood, Mich.; pastor of Enid Bible Church, Enid, Okla.; field representative and bookstore manager of "Go-Ye" Mission, Tahlequah, Okla., and chaplain of "Go-Ye" Village Retirement Community.

Gaylord's skills included carpentry, small engine repair, farming and parenting his five girls. He loved the Scriptures and crafted beautiful sermons. He was a loving husband and an example of humility, dignity, industry, courtesy and kindness.

Survivors include children, Mary E. Fletcher of Ponca City, Okla., Lois A. Janzen (Gary) of Enid, Okla., Faith L. Kelley (Jim) of Broken Arrow, Okla., Joy D. Leister (Tim) of Gilbert, Ioha, Deborah G. Zachary (Curt) of Springfield, Mo.; grandchildren, Deana Fortney, Jeremy Fortney, Eric Janzen, Elisa Beshear, Nathan Kelley, Christina Lenington, Joel Kelley, Julianne MacLachlan, Felicity Ratajczak, Harmony Spiker, Kimberly Leister, Sarah Healy, Ryan, Ben, Jonathan, Anna, Tyler, Taylor, Trinity and Gracie Zachary; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beulah; son, James; brothers, George and Leland; and sister, Marguerite Boakes.
