Covington – Maud E. Hodges, 90, who lived the early years of her marriage in a one room rock house built by her and her husband died Monday, in an Enid hospital.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10 AM in St. John's Lutheran Church, Covington. Pastor Carlton F. Kjergaard will officiate and burial will be in the Hayward Cemetery, under the direction of Fossett Funeral Home.
She was born July 23, 1882 at Bellview, Kansas, and moved with her parents to Oregon at six. She later moved to Mulhall before the opening of the Cherokee Strip. She married John N. Hodges in Perry, December 21, 1898. She moved to Covington in 1951 and had made her home there since.
She was a member of the Christian Church, in Covington. Mrs. Hodges was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three grandchildren, and three brothers.
Survivors include two sons, John Hodges, Pawnee; Jim Hodges, Covington; five daughters: Mrs. Art (Ruth) Berbohm, Manhattan, Kansas; Mrs. Charles (Olive) Hixon, Guthrie; Mrs. Alton (Mattie) Hayward, Enid; Mrs. Ted (Ada) Schmitz, Covington; Mrs. A. V. (Ida) Guthrie, Nowata; three sisters, Mr. Charlie (Mae) Ryan, Rogers, Arkansas; Mrs. Werner (Amelia) Falke, Mrs. Ernest (Rose) Van Hoesen, both of Tonkawa; one brother, Glenn Smith, Tulsa; 20 grandchildren, 34 great – grandchildren, and three great – great – grandchildren.
