The funeral service for Hazel Malaska, age 91, will be at 10:00 AM Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Keith Miller officiating. Burial will be in North Lions Cemetery in Marshall.

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Hazel Malaska, was called home to be with our Lord on Friday, March 30, 2012. She was born to L.D. and Mary Elizabeth (Colwell) Fanions on May16, 1920 in Tupelo.

Hazel attended Belleview School in Fairmont, graduated from Garber High School in 1939, and attended Enid Business College.

She married the love of her life, Glen Joseph Malaska on March 1, 1941 in Perry.

At an early age, she learned to cook and can vegetables from her mother. Hazel helped her youngest sisters with their studies. She worked for a family taking care of their children and helping with the chores during wheat harvest. She walked to carry food to the workers in the fields. Hazel worked at Marshall Tag Agency, Marshall Café, Marshall newspaper, and managed a Marshall hotel. She was a voter registrant and a notary.

Hazel was a wonderful cook and family, famous for her cinnamon rolls and cream pies. For several years, Hazel hosted family events in her home for 40-50 family members. Every Christmas, she made several types of candy for her family and friends to enjoy. The past few years she included her children in making the candy for the family. Hazel enjoyed all the family events and the more the merrier, she never turned anyone away. She enjoyed crafts and quilting, and would make handmade gifts for her family and friends. Hazel loved flowers and enjoyed working in her flower gardens until her eyesight prevented her from doing so.

Hazel was a member of Marshall Rebekah’s, played softball for a Marshall and Enid women’s softball team, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Enid.

She is survived by her children; Dale and Darla Malaska, LaDonna and Kenny Weber, Janice and Marvin Kusik, and Lynda Malaska, all of Enid, Tony and Roberta Malaska of Pauls Valley; 15 grandchildren, Randy and Maria Malaska, Darren Malaska, Brooke and Billy Blair, Kevin Malaska, Mike Pruegert, Todd and Gina Malaska, David and Alisha Malaska, Sheila Burgess, Christy and Stanley Anglemyer, Johnny and Stacy Weber, Brian Kusik and Lisa Russell, Michael and Catherine Kusik, Aaron Kusik, Jason and Stacey Kusik, Jillian Malaska and Hethe Paul, and Jaime Malaska, 31 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; two sisters Annabelle Malaska of San Antonio, and Gladys Clark of Red Rock; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother Joe Tucker, one sister Indianola Stephens, one son Lloyd Malaska, and one grandson Gene Malaska.

Memorials are to North Lions Cemetery.
