Raymond N. Bryson

September 12, 1908 - February 27, 2009

The funeral for Raymond Bryson, 100, of Marshall, will be 10:30 A.M., March 5, 2009 at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Marshall. The Rev. Dan Thimell will officiate. Burial will be in the Marshall Lions North Cemetery. Viewing will be March 4th from 8:30 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home and prior to the funeral. Arrangements are under the direction of Abernathy Aaron Funeral Home in Crescent.

Raymond was born September 12, 1908 in Marshall to Ollie and J.C. Bryson and died February 27, 2009 in Enid. He was a 1927 graduate of Marshall High School and a graduate of Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater with a degree in Animal Science. He was a member of the Farm House Fraternity and received the Oklahoma Farmhouse Master Builder award. He married Mabel Edsall December 20, 1931 in Watonga, Oklahoma. They made their home in rural Marshall and were farmers and ranchers and lived in the community their entire lives.

During World War II Raymond taught vocational agriculture at Marshall High School from 1942 to 1947. He also taught veterans classes from 1947 to 1951.

Raymond was very active in the Methodist Church and later in St. Paul’s U.C.C. nationally and locally. He worked on the national church Budget committee and Board of Directors of Homeland Ministries. He has been a member of the Masonic Lodge for 74 years and the Lion’s Club for 66 years. He received the prestigious Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellowship award in 2001.

Survivors include a daughter, Jane Burchardt and husband, Charles of the home; one sister, Frances Schnelle of Washington, KS; five grandchildren, Cindy Cordts and husband Don of Atwood, IL, Rita Fulton and husband Dave of Millstadt, IL, Greg Yelton and wife Michelle of Edmond, OK, Karen DeMent of St. Petersburg, FL, and Sharon Yelton of Oklahoma City; seven great grandchildren, Shana Cordts and husband Tyler, Amber Yelton Trett, Chand and Morgan Parkhurst, Emily Fulton, Dominique and Kaitlin DeMent, and by one great great grandchild, Emma Bailliez.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, his parents, a daughter, one brother and two sisters.

Memorials may be made to the St. Paul’s U.C.C., Marshall or the Raymond Bryson Animal Science Scholarship Fund at Oklahoma State University. Family and friends may sign the online guest book at www.abernathyaaron.com
