John Dee Bocox
July 5, 1943 - September 9, 2022

The funeral for John Dee Bocox, 79 year-old Enid resident, is Saturday, September 17, 2022 at 2:30PM in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Frank Case officiating. Burial will follow in Lions I.O.O.F. North Cemetery near Marshall.

John was born July 5, 1943 in Douglas to Luther and Doris (Brown) Bocox and died Friday, September 9, 2022 in Greenbrier Nursing Home. He attended Douglas schools and graduated with the class of 1961. On February 2, 1962, he married Lyndia Jo Atkins and the couple made their home in Enid. They later divorced.

John joined the Enid Police Department on January 1, 1970. He rose to the rank of Detective Sgt. at the time of retirement in 1995. He was instrumental in helping to form the narcotics division and worked undercover for eight years.

On May 14, 1994, he married Carole Annis Gorton and the couple made their home in Enid and Mannford. He was a member of the Elk's Lodge and was an avid farmer and fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Carole of the home; sons, Darren and partner Mary, Dustin and wife Kristin; Jason and wife, Amanda; step-son, Brian Gorton and wife, Kelly and step-daughter, Cathy Davie and husband Eric; grandchildren, Dominic, Abigail, Sophia, and Izabella Bocox; step-son-in law; two step-granddaughters; two step-grandsons and four step-great-grandsons; sisters, Vickie Link and husband, Tucker and Donna Gaudin as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Charles and Galen Bocox; sister, Shirley Valta and step-daughter, Becky Childers.
