ENID — Funeral service for Norma Jean Simmering, 88, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber, Okla., with Rev. Scott Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Garber Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m. today at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Norma was born Sept. 21, 1924, in El Dorado, Kan., the daughter of Cecil and Dorothy Baker Eby and passed away Monday, Oct. 29, 2012, at The Commons.

She was united in marriage to Ira Lee Simmering Oct. 26, 1942, in Garber, Okla. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 2007.

Mr. and Mrs. Simmering farmed for many years in the Garber community.

Norma was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Garber, Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, Sunday school teacher for over 40 years, Red Carpet Wood Carvers of Enid, Texas Wood Carvers Guild and the Nu-Way Club in Garber.

Survivors include daughters, Joyce VonDielingen of Garber, Okla., and Lynda Willhelm-Nelson of Hurst, Texas; son, Michael Simmering of Garber, Okla.; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Erin, James, Dustin, Amy, Tina and Tisha; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and sister, Mary Jo Williams of Oklahoma City, Okla.

Mrs. Simmering was also preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Richard and Dusty.

Memorial contributions may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church DVD Ministry with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home acting as custodian of the funds.

Funeral services for Ira Lee Simmering, 87, of Garber, will be 2 p.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber with Rev. Joseph Myers officiating. Burial will follow in Garber Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Ira was born June 27, 1920, in Garber, to August and Elsie Horchheimer Simmering and died October 18, 2007 at The Commons.

He served in the United States Army Infantry during World War II and Korea as 2nd Lieutenant, later earning the rank of Captain.

He married Norma Jean Eby in Garber. He earned a MS degree in Agronomy at Oklahoma State University. He worked at Swift and Company in Enid and Yoakum, Texas for 15 years, farmed near Garber for 30 years; he was a Master Woodcarver from 1979 to 2007. He was a life long member of the Lutheran Church and a Sunday school teacher, choir member and trustee. VFW Post Commander 1990 until 2003 and officer of Blackbear Soil Conservation District Board 1971-2003 and a member of Red Carpet Woodcarvers Club and the Texas Woodcarver Guild.

Surviving are his wife Norma Jean; daughter, Joyce VonDielingen; son, Michael D. Simmering; daughter, Lynda Willhelm Nelson; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is a brother, Virgil Simmering of Norman and sister, Eunice Porter of Lawton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Elsie Simmering.

A family visitation will be held today from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Bread of Life Outreach Center of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Garber through Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
