Funeral service for Ernest Wayne Daniels, Lt. Col. (Ret), 90, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at Central Christian Church with the Rev. John McLemore officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Garber Cemetery. Arrangements by Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1921, in Breckinridge, Okla., the son of Josiah J. and Anna Belle Routh Daniels. Wayne passed away Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at Greenbrier Nursing Home. Wayne was a graduate of Enid High School in 1940. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during World War II. His military action included the European Theatre and North Africa (EAME). He was a POW, receiving the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He returned to Oklahoma, serving in the National Guard, and was administrator in the Oklahoma National Guard in Enid. He also served during the Korean conflict and retired from the United States Army as a Lt. Colonel in 1966. During his military career, he served as a field artillery unit commander and a tactical nuclear weapons instructor.
He was united in marriage to Carol G. (Gerry) Helton on June 1, 1946, in Enid, Okla. He and Gerry moved to Enid in 1987. He was a member of Central Christian Church, where he served as treasurer, elder and a member of the Caregivers for many years. He was a member of Enid Kiwanis Club from 1987 to 2010. He was named Kiwanian of the Year several times. His work with the Kiwanis Club included the upkeep and the driving of the train at Meadowlake Park in Enid.

Survivors include his wife, Gerry of the home; daughter, Diana Daniels Taylor and husband Doug of Tulsa, Okla.; sons, Mark Daniels and wife Marion of Norman, Okla., and Jim Daniels and wife Melody of Yukon, Okla.; four grandchildren, Craig Taylor, Rachel Taylor, David Daniels and Aaron Daniels; brother, Dale Daniels and wife Maurita of Enid, Okla. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Alice Farque and Virginia Kirby; and five brothers, Ralph, Alvin, Glenn, Merle and Lawrence Daniels.
