Dorene and Elvin CINNAMON

Garber Cemetery

GARBER — Dorene Cinnamon, 95, of Garber, Okla., was the daughter of Clarence Valley and Violet Angell (Barnes) Garton. She was born March 15, 1915, on a farm east of Garber, Okla., and died Thursday, May 13, 2010, at Methodist Care Center in Enid, Okla.

Dorene married Kenneth Elvin Cinnamon Sept. 19, 1939. He preceded her in death on March 8, 1970.

She and Elvin were wheat and cattle farmers. She worked at Garber NursingHome and Enid State School. After her retirement she began babysitting for several children in the Garber area. Nurturing them as well as her own children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren was her greatest joy.

She was a terrific cook and baker. Her home was always a gathering place for her family. Her home in Garber was a favorite stopping place for her grandchildren. She was a member of Garber Christian Church. Her hobbies included gardening, crocheting, playing cards and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She especially enjoyed having the family over for Sunday dinners.

Funeral service will be 2 Monday, May 17, 2010, at Garber Christian Church. Pastor Doyle Newsom will officiate. Interment will be in Garber Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Dugger Funeral Home, Garber.

The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. today, May 16, 2010, at Dugger Funeral Home, Garber.

Memorials may be made to Garber Christian Church in care of Dugger Funeral Home, P.O. Box 66, Garber, OK 73738.

Dorene is survived by two sons, Lonnie Cinnamon and his wife Linda, and Dale Cinnamon, all of Garber, Okla.; two daughters, Avola Rutledge and her husband Ralph of Marysville, Ohio, and Joyce Masters of Oklahoma City, Okla.; six grandchildren, Dayla Canaday and her husband Danny, Terry Cinnamon and his wife Sandy, Robert Cinnamon and his wife Gretchen, Michael Rutledge and his wife Traci, Michelle Parker and Steven Rutledge and his wife Lindsay; and 13 great-grandchildren, Alexan, Kendal, Trevor and Logann Parker, Brittney Buckendorf, Jessica, Emily, Cameron, Cailin and Cristin Cinnamon, Morgan, Evan and Alex Rutledge.

Her memory and the teachings of her gentle heart remain with those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Cinnamon; her parents, Clarence and Violet Garton; and brother, Clarence Dean Garton.
