EDMOND, OK — Gemma Lynn Wallis, 61, of Edmond, Okla., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, in Edmond. She was born Dec. 9, 1952, in Enid, Okla., to Warren and Deborah Brueggemann.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gaylen Wallis; and brothers, Warren Brueggemann Jr. and Mike Brueggemann.

Survivors include her sister, Ann Thain; brother, Geoff Brueggemann; as well as many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

Gemma graduated from Enid High School in 1971.

She received her bachelor of science degree in microbiology from Oklahoma State University in 1975, and a master of science in microbiology in 1977.

She worked at Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for 35 years.

Gemma was married to Gaylen Wallis on May 13, 1989.

Gemma was known for her love of nature and the outdoors. She especially loved walking her dog in the park and hiking in Colorado.

She was a die-hard OSU fan and rarely missed a football or basketball game.

Gemma’s love for nature, her dog, and OSU football were surpassed only by her love for her family and her faith in God.

Those who knew Gemma well knew of her profound commitment to her family; especially her nieces and nephews for whom she was the favorite aunt.

She was also dearly loved by her friends, some of whom were lifelong friends. She touched the lives of everyone she met and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.

A funeral service will be held for Gemma at the Catholic Church of St. John the Baptist in Edmond on Friday, Jan. 31, 2014, at 10 a.m. Interment will be 3 p.m. in Enid Cemetery, Enid, Okla.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, a favorite charity, or simply just hug your family.

Service is under the direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, Okla.
