Albert Lee Sommers, 99, died early Friday morning July 8, 2005 at Golden Oaks Nursing Home.

He was born February 1, 1906 in Lahoma to Horace Albert Sommer and Ella Blanche (Hubbell) Sommers. He graduated from Lahoma High School in 1924. He then attended the University of Oklahoma and graduated in 1929 with a degree in pharmacy. He moved to Helena and worked as a partner with his father in the Sommers' Drug. He married Oleta Maye Orrell October 9, 1939 in Frederick; and they lived in Helena.

He volunteered for the US Army during WWII and served as a member of battery B, 53rd Battalion of the Coast Artillery. He was stationed at San Diego, CA and was honorably discharged.

He then moved to the Wood Village area near Portland, Oregon. He began working for the Alcoa Aluminum Plant. Later they moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for Douglas Aircraft.

They later moved back to Helena to work as a pharmacist. They moved to Perry in 1954 where he worked as a pharmacist for Bontrager and Chris Pharmacies until retiring in 1983. He moved to Enid in 1997 to be closer to his son and family.

He was a member of the Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge, Phi Kappa Sigma (Social Fraternity), and Alpha Kappa Psi (Professional fraternity).

He is survived by son, Stephen Lee Sommers and wife, Linda Sue (Scoggin) Sommers, Enid; two grandsons, Stephen Ty Sommers and Kevin Lee Sommers, both of Enid. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Earl Reynolds Sommers, sister, Dr. Ella Blance Commers.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Monday July 11, 2005 in the Perry Church of Christ with Gerald Stewart, pastor officiating. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Enid Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.enidwecare.com.
