ENID — A celebration of life service for Shera Shirley, 55, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, at Central Christian Church with Revs. John McLemore and Don Johnson officiating. A private family graveside service will be in Enid Cemetery. Visita-tion will be today through Friday at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The family will be present 5:30-7 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are by Anderson - Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Shera was born Feb. 28, 1956, in Denver, Colo., the daughter of Todd and Dorothy (Troth) Shirley and died Friday, July 15, 2011, at her home in Enid.

She grew up in Colorado and Iowa.

She graduated from Phillips University in 1978 with a bachelor's degree in English and Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1982 with a juris doctorate.

Shera began practicing law in 1982. She served in many capacities in the area of law including public defender and Wakita City Judge. She served on many boards in the Enid community, Garfield County Excise Board, Foster Care Review, American Cancer Society, Garfield County Youth Service Shelter, Pastoral Care Association and CDSA.

Shera was the first recipient of the Ann Overstreet Pro-bono award in 2007.

She volunteered legal counseling to domestic violence victims at the YWCA and hospice clients unable to afford legal services.

Shera was a member of Central Christian Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Brooks Johnson.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Tim Walsh; five sisters and their husbands, Kendra and Larry Van Liew of Temecula, Calif., Debra and Del Meade of Dallas, Pat and Craig Wiseman and Pam and David Greenwall, all of Oklahoma City, and Barbara and Ron Clemens of Wasilla, Alaska; nieces; nephews; godchildren; and many close friends.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to YWCA Women's Crisis Center or Youth and Family Services.
