Sharon R. Sandburg, 60, loving mother of three, died in Enid on Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, following a long bout with cancer. Prior to her illness, she was employed by Integris Bass, Enid, as a housekeeper for several years. She enjoyed organizing, cleaning, thrift-store shopping, country and western dancing, but most of all, she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Sharon was born June 26, 1952, in Enid, Okla., to Horace and Madeline Chappell. She spent much of her childhood on her grandparents farm in Ames, Okla. She attended Enid, Garber and Pioneer schools.

She married Dennis C. Weldon in 1969; They had two daughters together. She later married the late Bertyl E. Sandburg Sr., and they had one son.

She was preceded in death by both her parents, Horace E. Chappell and May L. “Madeline” Bossart Chappell; a husband, Bertyl E. Sandburg Sr.; son-in-law, Darin Melka; and one stepsister, Paula Faught.

Surviving are two daughters, both of Enid, Michelle L. Nightingale and husband Branden, and Denise R. Lagan and husband Randel; one son, Bertyl E. Sandburg Jr. of Pratt, Kan.; six grandchildren, Kelci, Lauren, Garrett, Abbey, Isaiah and Samantha; one brother, Gary L. Chappell of Edmond; one sister, Nancy M. Kimbrell of Enid; one stepbrother, Robert Faught of Enid; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Wade Burleson officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Enid Cemetery under the kind guidance of Stittsworth Funeral Service.
