The funeral services for Joseph E. Rogers, 81-year-old Enid resident, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at Henninger-Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Gene Burnham will officiate. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Joseph was born Aug. 2, 1925, in Enid to Edward E. Rogers and Ethel Mae (Ulrey) Rogers and died at his home Sunday morning July 22, 2007.

He attended local schools and was a bottle checker for the Coca Cola Co. here in Enid for 12 months prior to his induction into the armed forces in 1943. He was assigned to the 82nd Parachute Infantry Regiment. He served in the European Theater of Operations in Normandy, Ardennes and the Rhineland campaigns. He received the Purple Heart, three Bronze Stars, World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, EAME Theater Ribbon, and Distinguished Unit Badge. After the war, on Dec. 6, 1947, he married Artus (Hurbutt) in Enid. He began working for Asplund Construction which kept the couple on the move for 12 years. He began working as a foreman for Luckinbill and the couple settled in Enid. He retired from that position after 16 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

The family would like to thank Hospice, his doctors and Jean Bell for their kindness and help.

He is survived by his wife, Artus, of the home; his daughter, Kay Shortnacy, Enid; his sons, Buddy Rogers, Joseph L. Rogers, Darryl Rogers and wife Jo, and Terry Rogers and wife Sherri, all of Enid; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and one sister.

Memorials may be made to either Hospice Circle of Love or OMRF (Cancer Division) with Henninger-Allen acting as custodian of the funds.
