The funeral service for Mr. William Gale Miller, 83, of Enid will be Saturday, Feb. 9 at 2 p.m., in the Enid Cemetery Chapel with Dr. Don Tines officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Open viewing will be until Saturday at noon. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the United States Army. He was born Jan. 2, 1930, in Laverne, Okla., to William Wesley Miller and Iva (Kinsman) Miller and passed away Feb. 3 in Enid.

He graduated from Enid High School and then was drafted into the United States Army in 1951. He was honorably discharged after serving five years, in order to take care of his parents. He moved back to Enid and worked for P&P until P&P sold in 1984. Gale married Clarabell Swart Jan. 20, 1952, in Enid, where they made their home. They co-owned and then owned Polly and Peggy’s Café from 1952-1984. He also worked for the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission as an official steward. Later, he worked at Autry Vo-Tech for 10 years before retiring.

He was one of the original founders of Garfield Downs Horse Racing Track in Enid. He served on the Board of Directors of the Oklahoma Horseman’s Association from District Six. He was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association and the Oklahoma Horse Racing Commission.

He is survived by his daughter, Sharon Gonzales and husband, Eddie of Enid; his son, Larry Miller, and wife, Christi, of Enid; six grandchildren, Jamie Wilson, Tiffany Thorne, Tanner Miller, Trevor Miller, Eddie Gonzales Jr., Danny Gonzales; four great-grandkids, Dakota Wilson, Brittany Wilson, Paisley Thorne, and Draven Gonzales. He was preceded by his wife, Clarabell, in 2009, his son, Jerry Miller, in 1975, two brothers and one sister.
