Funeral services for Virginia Claire Hutchins will be 2 pm. Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Susan Southall officiating. Burial will be at a later date in the Enid Cemetery. She passed away on May 5, 2011 one day prior to her 60th wedding anniversary. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday May 9, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Virginia was born May 24, 1928 in Hutchinson, KS the daughter of Harvey and Marie Copeland. She grew up in Great Bend, KS and graduated from Great Bend High School. She graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, KS in 1950 with a BS in Business. She married Max R. Hutchins in May 1951 and they moved to Enid in 1952. She was employed at Dillingham Insurance for 18 years from 1969-1987. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Friendship Sunday school class. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority since 1953 and was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Mercy Hospital.

She is survived y her husband Max of the home, tow sons, Mark Hutchins and wife Shirley of Lubbock, TX, Richard Hutchins and wife Diane of Edmond, OK, a daughter Anne Edmonds and husband Dr. Brad Edmonds of Ponca City, OK, sister Connie Kvasnicka and husband Bill of Shawnee, KS, sister-in-law Karen Copeland of Bartlesville, OK, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother James Copeland.

Max Raymond Hutchins died July 8, 2017, at age 95. He was born August 4, 1921, to Russ and Varene Granger Hutchins, on a farm near Cawker City, Kan.

Max spent his childhood in Glen Elder, Kan., graduating from Glen Elder High School in 1939. Max was employed by Glenn L. Martin Aircraft in Baltimore, Md., from 1941 to 1943. He served in the Army Air Corps from 1943 to 1946 as a Sergeant in Air Flight Control at bases in Canada and Alaska. Max graduated from Kansas State University in 1949, with a BS in Business. He worked at Kansas Power and Light in Topeka, Kan. He was a schoolteacher for a time.

Max married Virginia Copeland of Great Bend, Kan., on May 6, 1951, and they moved to Enid in 1952. He was employed by Groendyke Transport as an accountant for 40 years, until retirement in 1992. Max was a member of the Friendship Class at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion. He volunteered at Leonardo's Children's Museum, and enjoyed golfing and fishing throughout his life.

Max was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Donald and Ted Hutchins, and one sister, Florence Jones. He was also preceded in death by his wife on May 5, 2011, the day before their 60th wedding anniversary.

He is survived by his three children: sons, Mark and wife Shirley of Lubbock, Texas, and Richard and wife Diane of Oklahoma City, and a daughter, Anne Edmonds and husband Brad of Ponca City. Max has six grandsons, Michael, Grant, Kyle, Jon, Maxwell, and Joseph, and two granddaughters, Melanie and Marie. He also has five great-grandchildren. Max is survived by his brother, George and wife June of Topeka, Kan., and a sister-in-law, June Hutchins of Seneca, S.C.

Max was a kind and generous man with a big heart. He will be truly missed.

A celebration of his life is planned for a future date.
