Violet Wick HOOVER

Enid Cemetery


Violet L. Hoover, 97, died June 5, 2005 in Shelton, WA. Mrs. Hoover was born March 21, 1908 in Enid, OK to Lula Gracie Gunning and S. M. Wick, early Cherokee Strip settlers. Violet L. Wick attended schools at Hitchcock, Okeene and Enid where she graduated and attended business college. She then was employed by Gray's Menswear as bookkeeper.

Violet Wick married Phillip F. Hoover of Enid in 1935, he preceded her in death, December 12, 1967. Violet Hoover traveled extensively with Lt. Col. Hoover during his 24 year military career. Upon his retirement they established their home at Shelton, WA where they both died. Violet Hoover was active in the Shelton General Hospital auxiliary, Order of the Amaranth and local garden club with whom she continued to travel.

In addition to her husband, Phillip, Violet Hoover was preceded in death by two sisters, Jimmie Del Padgett and Margret Smith and two brothers, Glenn M. Wick and W. Carl Wick.

She leaves five nephews, Clint Padgett with whom she resided in Shelton, WA, Chuck Padgett, Seattle, WA, Kennedy Smith, Salem, OR, Fred C. Wick, Edmond, OK and Carl M. Wick, Houston, TX and numerous Gunning relatives.

Burial is under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home in Enid, OK at Enid Cemetery in the Hoover plot with no service planned. Any contributions may be made to the Enid Cemetery in Violet Hoover's name.
