Enid Cemetery


The funeral for Dan Edwards, 90, 4330 E. Garriott, who died early Saturday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness, was at 10 AM Monday in Henninger – Allen Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. T. Arnold Davis officiated. Burial was in the Enid Cemetery.

Edwards was born January 5, 1894, at Cherry Hill, Arkansas, and moved with his family to Durant, Indian Territory, in August 1907. He lived in that vicinity until July 1918 when he entered the United States Army, serving during World War I. He was discharged November 28, 1919, with the rank of private first class.

On June 11, 1930, he and Irma Lucille Lambeth were married in Oklahoma City. He moved to Enid in May of 1929 where he was employed by Silvers Electric Company for three years and later by Clevenger Electric Company for five years. In April 1938, he established his own business, Dan's Electric Shop, which he operated until selling it in 1959 when he retired.

Edwards became a member of First Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 1919. He also became a member of the American Legion in March 1924 where he has held continuous membership. In June 1937, he became a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was Chapter Commander for a period of 11 years. He was elected State Commander of the Oklahoma Disabled American Veterans in June 1948, serving for one year. In March 1930, he became a member of the Enid Odd Fellow Lodge (I00F) No. 31 and was past Grand Patriarch of Grand Encampment of Oklahoma.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille; one son, Gordon Thomas, Enid; four grandchildren; one great – grandson; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.

Memorials in his name may be made to the I00F Endowment Trust with the funeral home serving as custodian of the funds.
